Harper’s Bazaar: The Stallone Sisters

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

My latest feature is for the cover of Harper—the fabulous beauty-based magazine tucked inside the May 2017 issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

The story is an interview with the three cute daughters of Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin Stallone: Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet: Sly’s Angels: The Stallone Sisters Enter the Spotlight. They surprised me with just how sweet, cool and funny they were.

One of my favorite parts was when they explained that, when they were younger, their dad used to wake them up at 6 am to do sit-ups and push-ups, and practice punches and shot-put before school. When I asked what they called this bootcamp-like workout, the middle-child Sistine said, “We called it an inconvenience.” Catch more of it in the whole story here on the Harper’s Bazaar site, or pick up an issue on stands now.

The Most Unique Interview I’ve Ever Done: Meghan Trainor

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

The May 2017 issue of Cosmpolitan features my sit-down cover interview with the awesome, talented, interesting, warm, funny, cool singer, performer and songwriter Meghan Trainor, who is just the cutest. I’ve interviewed her before (here’s my last chat with her for Seventeen magazine)

Here’s the story on Cosmo‘s site: Meghan Trainor Living Out Loud.

Why was it unique? Because Meghan was on vocal rest for an upcoming vocal cord surgery, which meant she couldn’t actually, like, speak—instead, Meghan typed on her laptop’s Notes app, while her also awesome bestie assistant JoJo translated for her. Anyway, it was such a fun one.

The issue is on stands now.

My New Interview: Hilary Duff is All About Leaning Out

Thursday, April 6th, 2017

My latest cover story on stands is a sit-down I had with actress and singer Hilary Duff for the April 2017 issue of Redbook. I’d interviewed Hilary before, so I was looking forward to it—and she proved that she was still just as great as I’d remembered: open, fun, interesting and just…real.

We chatted a lot about what it’s like being a single mom to her son, Luca, whom she’s about co-parenting with her ex Mike Comrie—including mom guilt, how we judge each other, and what she does to stay emotionally grounded and happy as a parent.

You can read our full conversation by grabbing a copy of the issue, on stands now. Or, here’s a small taste of our talk: Hilary Duff is All About Leaning Out.

What I didn’t include is all the gabbing we did about her show Younger, which I am hopelessly enthralled with. If you’re not already watching, put June 28th in your iCal so you can check it out on TV Land when it returns for Season 4.

Tracee Ellis Ross: Fit and Fierce

Tuesday, March 14th, 2017

Some days, I can’t believe my luck—that my job is to sit down to chat with some of the most creative, confident, inspiring, badass women. And this month is no different.

I got to sit down with Tracee Ellis Ross—Emmy winning star of the hilarious and important show Blackish, former star of Girlfriends, daughter of Diana Ross, and the cover star of the March 2017 issue of Health magazine.

You can check out our full interview  here on the Health site: Tracee Ellis Ross: “At 22, I woke up like that. At 44, I work really hard.”

Read what she has to say about her intense workout routine with Tracy Anderson, the lessons she’s learned with age, how she came to love her body (which is badass as you can see) and her vices (the funniest I’ve heard yet!).

America the Beautiful

Saturday, March 4th, 2017

Here is another one of my latest: An interview with the warm, wise, funny, fierce and inspiring America Ferrera for the March 2017 issue of Redbook.

We met up on the set of the NBC television show Superstore, which she not only stars in, but is also a producer. We got to chat about what (and who!) has inspired her to take chances at work, how she ups her confidence, how she pushed herself to complete a triathlon last year—yeah, a dang triathlon—and what makes her marriage work.

You can read some bites of our talk here on the Redbook site: America Ferrera is Not Afraid of Being a Little Big Scared. This isn’t the whole piece, but it’s a few choice bites. My favorite is what she said at the end of our talk, about how she plans to do more as a women in business—which of course extends far beyond entertainment for all of us…

“We talk about a lot of things we want to see more women doing. We want more women producers, more women writers, more women directors–and you can only say that so many times before you say, ‘I’m a woman. What’s stopping me from doing this?’ I’ve had to ask myself: Why not me?”

Amen, girl. Like a boss.

My Michael Phelps Wedding Interview

Friday, February 24th, 2017

I don’t often interview men about their weddings, but I got a fun chance to when I spoke with Michael Phelps—the most decorated Olympian in history—and his new wife Nicole Johnson about their wedding. Well, weddings.

They first married in a small five-person ceremony in their backyard in Arizona in June 2016. Then they had an October wedding for their closest friends and family in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. And when we spoke, they will still preparing for their grand finale: A roaring 20s-themed wedding reception party on New Year’s Eve.

Here is our chat for Brides magazine discussing their first and second celebrations: Inside Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson’s Romantic Destination Wedding in Mexico. They were such a fun, sweet couple—and they also shared a short take of their wedding video with the story.

Just know that if you start checking out the Instagram page of their son, Boomer, like I did (@boomerphelps)…it’s hard to stop.

Lauren Graham: Gilmore Girl & Memoir Author

Tuesday, December 13th, 2016

laurengrahamcomp2

For the January 2017 issue of Good Housekeeping, I sat down with actress Lauren Graham to celebrate the revamp of Gilmore Girls and the launch of Lauren’s first memoir Talking As Fast as I Can. She also took me around her neighborhood, where we popped into her charming, cozy, gorgeously decorated personal office where she’s been working on her second novel and the script for the film The Royal We that she’s developing with her former Parenthood co-star Mae Whitman.

So yeah, she’s busy. You can read the full story in the new issue of Good Housekeeping on stands now, or check it out here on the GH website: Lauren Graham of “Gilmore Girls” Spills her 7 Biggest Get-Happy Lessons.

(And I mean, with my three books on happiness like Bright Side Up and The Happy Life Checklist, could there be a more “me” kind of story to write?)

Hope you enjoy. I did!

Pep Talks from Jillian Michaels

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

In the TV pitching industry, there is a term MOP: Most Often Pitched. In my world, I just crossed a threshold into more of an MOI: Most Often Interviewed. And lucky for me, the person topping my list is the wildly fit, talented and wise Jillian Michaels, whom I recently interviewed for the November 2016 cover of Health magazine.

jillianhealthcover

She has a lot of insight on eating healthy (of course) and staying fit (duh)–even getting your body back after a hiatus like a pregnancy, injury or the holidays. But as always, she also has some big thoughts on conquering life itself. As my favorite quote of hers this month says:

The middle is the answer to everything. If somebody asked me, “What is the secret of life?” I would say, “Middle.”

Here’s my full story Jillian Michaels: “I’ve Taken a Lot of Punches But I’m Still Standing” which is in Health magazine on stands now. Click it or grab it and find out what advice Jillian would give her younger self, what she really thinks of millennials, and the 3 best pep talks she’d give us in our worst moments of self-defeat. Though my favorite part is listening to the advice she gave her young daughter before her first day of school. I just may have to use some of that myself…
