The Most Unique Interview I’ve Ever Done: Meghan Trainor

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

The May 2017 issue of Cosmpolitan features my sit-down cover interview with the awesome, talented, interesting, warm, funny, cool singer, performer and songwriter Meghan Trainor, who is just the cutest. I’ve interviewed her before (here’s my last chat with her for Seventeen magazine)

Here’s the story on Cosmo‘s site: Meghan Trainor Living Out Loud.

Why was it unique? Because Meghan was on vocal rest for an upcoming vocal cord surgery, which meant she couldn’t actually, like, speak—instead, Meghan typed on her laptop’s Notes app, while her also awesome bestie assistant JoJo translated for her. Anyway, it was such a fun one.

The issue is on stands now.

Calling all Single + Married Women: It’s Been Advice Month!

Wednesday, January 13th, 2016

I’ve been asked to share my positive thoughts on love for a few publications lately, so in case any of these stories might appeal to you, here they are…

1) First, I loved contributing to this piece called “That Single Life” in the brand new January/February 2016 issue of Women’s Health magazine.

WomensHealthSINGLE The Women’s Health features real women who have bucked the coupledom standards by doing things like buying a house single, having a baby single, and traveling single.

I spoke with writer Faye Brennan about why single women can rock whatever it is they damn want, which is the entire mindset behind my book Meeting Your Half-Orange: An Utterly Upbeat Guide to Using Dating Optimism to Find Your Perfect Match (Running Press).

Pick up the Jan/Feb issue of Women’s Health to read the full piece about “That Single Life,” but here’s my advice in part #3 about why it’s healthy to be “The Jet Setter” who is traveling solo:

Half-Orange Advice

2) For the story Dating as a Single Parent…If You Dare, I offered some advice for single mothers who are having a difficult time in their dating lives with writer Christine Coppa, who is a single mom herself. You can read the full story here on that one here on the USA Today Network’s Asbury Park Press site, but here’s a small snapshot of some my advice when it comes to where to meet your potential partners:

3) I also offered some advice for Woman’s Day magazine, about the 9 Important Signs Your Marriage Can Be Saved. I talked to the magazine about the positive signs of recognizing that your behavior might be affecting your partner’s behavior or when you both recognize how much you appreciate your family time. You can read the full piece here on Woman’s Day, but here, again, is a small snapshot of some of my advice:

Love & Happiness Advice for Single Parents

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015

I’ve been interviewed a number of times lately for a few different kinds of stories, but one I come back to pretty often: dating, love and happiness advice for single moms and dads—some of the hardest working people in life-business. Here is some of my love, happiness and dating advice for parents going it alone.

1: How to Deal with Your Ex’s New Partner

First, some advice for single moms dealing with her ex’s new partner that appeared on Yahoo News. The wonderfully honest story, by writer Chrissi Coppa, was called Tom Brady’s Ex Deserves Praise for her Gracious Co-Parenting Tweet, and I offered my insight on what it meant that Bridget Moynahan tweeted a congratulations to the Patriots following their win, and what that meant for her son and their family.

2. How to Date as a Single Parent

I also offered some of my dating tips for single parents for a piece that appeared in Parenting.com and CNN.com among others.

I wish I could give a free copy of Meeting Your Half-Orange to every last single mom or single dad in the country, because I truly believe that it could help shift how they feel in a meaningful way.

The way I see it, when you are feeling overwhelmed and down on yourself or your circumstances—which is so often the case with single parents who don’t have even .001 second to think about themselves because they are so focused on their child/children—the best thing you can do for yourself emotionally is find a way to adjust your perspective and feelings so that you can get through each day in a happier place. The more in control, positive, hopeful and happy you feel, the better a person, a parent and a provider you can be.

The Daily News on Half-Oranges: “Grab It!”

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

It was such a sweet treat to see that the New York City newspaper The Daily News found and featured my little App at the end of summer! App Momma is so darn proud. Here is the Sunday edition of the paper with my iPhone App Half-Orange Optimisms, listed under the “Grab it!” section of the App reviews.

“We all need pick-me-ups now and then,” the writer says in her review, “especially if we’re prepping to put ourselves out there.” She’s right. So if you have an iPhone and could use a pep talk in your pocket, give the App a go and see what you think!
