Some of…The Magnificent Seven

Monday, September 19th, 2016

My latest cover story debuted this month: A Parade magazine interview with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, about what it’s like playing Two of the Good Guys.

mag7coverI spoke to the pair at a home in Los Angeles, about their latest film: The Magnificent Seven, which is sort of a remake (1960’s The Magnificent Seven released in 1960) of a remake (1954’s Seven Samurai), but more so just its own thing.

The film, led by director Antoine Fuqua, opens nationally this weekend. And in the meantime, enjoy the fun that is Denzel and Chris batting their answers back and forth and discussing how they got along with their horses, and the value of playing “the goofy, funny guy.”

At Home with Ellen Pompeo

Monday, August 29th, 2016

embed_GH_Sept_Cover_RedFor this month’s September 2016 issue of Good Housekeeping, I spent some time with Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo in her Los Angeles home.

And my goodness, what a gorgeous home it is. She talked to me about designing the home from scratch with her friend and interior designer Martyn Lawrence. And we also talked about her family life with her husband and kids, as well as how her Grey’s Anatomy role began and has developed over the years.

She recently signed on for more seasons of Shonda Rhimes’ ABC show, but in the meantime, we all get to start watching a brand new season (Season 13) on Thursday, Sept 22. And to read the full story, pick up the latest issue of Good Housekeeping, or check out my Ellen Pompeo Cover Interview on the magazine’s website.

My Inspiring Chat with Shonda Rhimes

Monday, August 29th, 2016

embed_GH_Sept_Cover_RedIn addition to interviewing the cover star of the September 2016 issue of Good Housekeeping—Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy—I was also lucky enough to interview the show’s creator, writer, producer and all-around epic TV master Shonda Rhimes.

Shonda and I had a wonderful telephone chat where she told me how her life has been going following the big year profiled in her bestselling book Year of Yes. Shonda, a mother of three shared how she’s learned to say “no” more, how she faces self-doubt, and her big secret for facing a difficult conversation.

You can check out my full interview One-on-One with Shonda Rhimes on the magazine’s website, or grab the new issue on stands now.

Alex Morgan: Kicking Ass

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

I love talking to kickass women, and this month, it was Alex Morgan, forward for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team. We talked for the cover of the July 2016 issue of Health magazine.

HEALTHAlexMorgan_Page_1

We got to talk about all the good stuff: How she warms up, works out and stays fit as she kills it on the U.S. team that won a gold medal and a World Cup championship. And we also talked about the important battle she and her teammates are waging in the fight for equal pay and comparable field quality for the women’s team — fair pay for fair play.

You can read the full fun and inspiring story on the Health.com site: Alex Morgan: Gold Rush. And you can also pick up the issue on stands and get a small taste of her awesome story here.

Game On! Game Night with the Black-ish Cast

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

I had so much fun popping by the set of the ABC sitcom Black-ish to sit down with the cast of the comedy for a recent cover of PARADE magazine.
PARADEBlackishCoverBRIGHT

I met up with Laurence Fishburne, Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and the four actors who play their kids on the show to chat about how to balance the serious things in life with a little fun like family game night—and which of them might beat you at a game and never ever let you forget it. (Hint: It’s Anthony Anderson).

You can read the full story on Parade.com, which includes even more of their wit and wisdom than the print edition. Check out Game On: Balancing Serious Issues and Fun with the Cast of Black-ish.

Yes, Meghan Trainor

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

MeghanTrainor17COVER

I fell hard for singer Meghan Trainor when I got to interview her for the cover of the May 2016 issue of Seventeen magazine.

She’s an insanely hardworking and already prolific songwriter, has killer confidence in herself and her music, is uniquely hilarious, and was as warm and welcoming as a human could be when I visited her at her house.  Plus, she taught me all sorts of new things, like what dressing “scrub” means and how to hang to hang out with your “glam.”

I basically bow to this young one! The mag is on stands now and you can see a few outtakes on the Seventeen magazine site, or grab an issue on stands now.

Alison Brie Gets Her Fashion On in ALEXA

Thursday, March 17th, 2016

This week’s latest is a feature I did for The New York Post with the gorgeous, quirky and hilarious Alison Brie. We met at a cafe by the Hollywood sign to talk about fashion, love and work. And there was a lot of work to talk about.

AlisonBrieALEXACover

Alison has been in so much it’s almost hard to keep track of her: Mad Men, Community, The Five-Year Engagement, How to Be Single, Get a Job, and the one I’m most looking forward to: the new ITV British period drama from Julian Fellowes (from Downton Abbey) called Dr. Thorne, in which Alison will play an American character.

And she shared some funny memories about growing up and some insights to her engagement to James Franco’s younger brother Dave Franco.

You know what? I’ll just let the feature story tell you all you need to know about what she’s up to these days. You can read the whole fashion ALEXA special on the New York Post site: Alison Brie: The Biggest Misconception About Me is That I’m Wholesome. It was pure fun chatting with her. Hope you enjoy.

Shai Anything: My InStyle Magazine Interview with Shailene Woodley

Wednesday, February 17th, 2016

The March 2016 issue of InStyle magazine has a lot of cool things going for it: It’s a big, fat, juicy issue full of new spring fashion; the magazine has a brand new re-design; and it features a cover story I wrote.

I sat down with actress Shailene Woodley—star of the upcoming film The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 1—to talk about her upcoming film, her new projects (she’s currently filming the HBO series Big Little Lies with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman for which I’ll promptly be hitting that binge-me-now button) and all things life, love and happiness.

INSTYLEShaileneCover

Over dinner at Akasha in Culver City, we talked a lot about travel, fashion, confidence, and learning to appreciate the small moments to reach the ultimate goal: contentment. You can get a taste for the story in this excerpt from my Shailene Woodley interview on InStyle.com where she explains that “happiness is not something I need to achieve.”

Here, she also talks about her recent travels through India and gives a short video interview on the InStyle.com site.

You can pick the issue on stands now or grab the full digital edition of the March 2016 issue. Here’s a taste of what we talked about so you can see why it’s worth it.
