My New Interview: Hilary Duff is All About Leaning Out

Thursday, April 6th, 2017

My latest cover story on stands is a sit-down I had with actress and singer Hilary Duff for the April 2017 issue of Redbook. I’d interviewed Hilary before, so I was looking forward to it—and she proved that she was still just as great as I’d remembered: open, fun, interesting and just…real.

We chatted a lot about what it’s like being a single mom to her son, Luca, whom she’s about co-parenting with her ex Mike Comrie—including mom guilt, how we judge each other, and what she does to stay emotionally grounded and happy as a parent.

You can read our full conversation by grabbing a copy of the issue, on stands now. Or, here’s a small taste of our talk: Hilary Duff is All About Leaning Out.

What I didn’t include is all the gabbing we did about her show Younger, which I am hopelessly enthralled with. If you’re not already watching, put June 28th in your iCal so you can check it out on TV Land when it returns for Season 4.

America the Beautiful

Saturday, March 4th, 2017

Here is another one of my latest: An interview with the warm, wise, funny, fierce and inspiring America Ferrera for the March 2017 issue of Redbook.

We met up on the set of the NBC television show Superstore, which she not only stars in, but is also a producer. We got to chat about what (and who!) has inspired her to take chances at work, how she ups her confidence, how she pushed herself to complete a triathlon last year—yeah, a dang triathlon—and what makes her marriage work.

You can read some bites of our talk here on the Redbook site: America Ferrera is Not Afraid of Being a Little Big Scared. This isn’t the whole piece, but it’s a few choice bites. My favorite is what she said at the end of our talk, about how she plans to do more as a women in business—which of course extends far beyond entertainment for all of us…

“We talk about a lot of things we want to see more women doing. We want more women producers, more women writers, more women directors–and you can only say that so many times before you say, ‘I’m a woman. What’s stopping me from doing this?’ I’ve had to ask myself: Why not me?”

Amen, girl. Like a boss.

Kacey Musgraves: Gritty, Girly, Great

Wednesday, June 24th, 2015

The July 2015 issue of Redbook magazine features my cover story with country singer and songwriter Kacey Musgraves.

KaceyMusgravesCOVERI’ve been listening to a preview of her new album, Pageant Material, for weeks now and loving it. So it was a joy to be able to sit down with Katy Perry’s favorite rising country star in Los Angeles, and talk about what’s gotten her to this point and what she wants out of life from here.

You can read some excerpts of the interview on the Redbook website: Country Superstar Kacey Musgraves Schools Us in How To Be Badass

And here’s a sample of how the story is being picked up by other celebrity news magazines around the country, including this People magazine piece.

Lauren Conrad’s Happiness Secrets

Friday, March 13th, 2015

This month, I had a sit-down with reality show star turned fashion and lifestyle maven, Lauren Conrad for the cover story in the April 2015 issue of Redbook magazine. We met at the offices of one of her fashion businesses in L.A., Paper Crown, and she was down to earth, super cool and really funny. Check out the full story “Lauren’t Un-Perfect Life” in the issue, on stands now. Or grab a little taste here at Redbook.com.

Some of Lauren’s wise insights were picked up by other publications, and this tidbit about being more kind in the workplace was one of my favorites (here’s how Cosmopolitan wrote about it).

And now back to my regularly scheduled envy of her style.

Julianne Hough Gets Real with me in Redbook

Monday, July 21st, 2014

REDBOOKJulianneHough_Page_1I had the most refreshing sit-down with Julianne Hough—dancer, actress, singer, choreographer, TV judge, producer and shoe designer. (I think I’ve covered them all.)

We got to chat for the August cover of Redbook magazine after her photo shoot at a house in Beverly Hills recently, and the former Dancing with the Stars champion wasn’t just nice, down to earth and real—she was also in a time of transition in her life that is all about letting her real self shine through, and she shared it all. You can see some of the piece online at Redbook.com in For Julianne Hough, Everything Has Changed.

If you grab the issue and read the whole piece, I hope you enjoy it. And if you get a chance to see her and her brother Derek in their “Move on Live” dance tour this summer, do it.
